DRY EYE

Dry eye is a condition that occurs when your tears aren’t able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. It may be that you are not producing enough tears, the environment you are in or because you are spending a long time in front of screens.  Whatever the cause, we can prescribe a wide range of dry eye treatments and drops.

If you are suffering from dry eye, you may be experiencing some of the following;

  • Red eyes
  • Tired eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Grittiness or itchiness
  • flakiness or crusting surrounding the eyelids

Many people suffer from mild symptoms but more severe cases can be very uncomfortable and negatively impact quality of life.

At Tracton Optometrists we have a suite of options to help treat and manage dry.  Over the counter lubricants from pharmacies may not be sufficient to alleviate the symptoms.  In addition to pharmacy options we can provide you with nutritional supplements, wipes for the eyelids, or a script for prescription eye drops.

We are also able to refer you to the appropriate practitioner who can provide treatments for more more severe cases of dry eye including; Intense pulsed light (IPL), Lipiflow treatment or Blephex.

Another option for treating dry eye are punctal plugs, small devices that can be inserted into tear ducts to block drainage. This enhances the eye’s tear film and surface moisture to help relieve certain types of dry eye. They can be semi-permanent or dissolvable.

Lacritec is designed to provide key nutrients and fatty acids that can support tear production, reduce inflammation and improve the overall health of the surface of the eye.

Lacritec contains ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids (such as EPA and DHA), vitamin D, and other antioxidants. These components are believed to help reduce inflammation, stabilise tear film, and promote the production of healthy tears.
