How often should I have my eyes tested?

If you are healthy and symptom free, eye examinations are recommended every two years or at any time if you notice changes in your vision,  have eyestrain, pain in the eye, flashes of light or other visual symptoms .   It is recommended that people over the age of 65 and those with health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure have an eye test every year. Recommendation for children’s eye tests is to start a 5 years old or earlier if there may be any issues.

Where is your practice?

We are located on Oxford Street Bondi Junction, near the corner of Hollywood Avenue.  We are next door to the HSBC Bank, and across from the Zara exit of Westfield.  We are a 5 minute walk from Bondi Junction train station and bus interchange.  If you are driving, parking is available in Westfield Bondi Junction.

Do you have parking?

Parking is available in Westfield Bondi Junction parking station.  You can exit the centre either at Zara and cross the road to our practice, or at the Lego store/Country Road exit. You can also park in the Council parking station at 38 Waverley Street and exit on Hollywood Avenue.

Can I get contact lenses for reading?

Yes there are specialised multifocal contact lenses that can correct for presbyopia (reading correction for mature eyes).   After testing your eyes, we can provide you with a free in room trial to see how these could work for you.

Can I get multifocal contact lenses?

Yes, multifocal contact lenses are available in dailies and monthlies. Multifocal contact lenses are also now available in higher oxygen, more breathable options.  After testing your eyes, we can provide you with a free in room trial to see how these could work for you.

Do you measure eye pressure?

Yes, during an eye examination we will test for glaucoma by assessing your optic nerve and measuring your eye pressure. We may do additional in room testing for glaucoma if there are any concerning signs. If you have a family history of glaucoma that increases your risk and we would recommend regular reviews.

Do you treat conjunctivitis?

Yes, we are therapeutically endorsed and can treat conjunctivitis with prescription drops or ointment. We would recommend review with our optometrist who will conduct a thorough examination with the use of a slit lamp biomicroscope (a high magnification device).

Do you treat dry eye?

Yes, there are a variety of treatment regimens for dry eye depending on the severity and cause of the condition. Some treatments include; over the counter dry eye lubricants, Restasis, punctal plugs and other prescription treatment regimes.

Do you offer free eye tests?

Most eye tests are free (bulk billed to Medicare if you are eligible). There may be some out of pocket expense for additional testing such as contact lens fittings and advanced tests.

Do you take health fund payments?

Yes, we have Hicaps capability so that can make a direct claim with all of the major health funds in our practice.

How much experience do you have?

Our optometrist Daniel Tracton has been practicing optometry for 26 years, and holds an Honours degree in Optometry from the University of New South Wales. He has completed advanced studies in Ocular therapeutics from UNSW, enabling him to treat a host of eye conditions with prescription medications. Daniel Tracton was the principal optometrist at LensPro optometrists Bondi Junction for the past several years.

Can you check my cataracts?

Yes, in the full eye health check we will assess you for cataracts. We will assess whether or not the cataracts can be monitored regularly or require referral for surgery.

Can you give me a medical certificate for conjunctivitis?

Yes, after an eye test a medical certificate can be provided if you have conjunctivitis.

Do you test children’s vision?

Yes, we conduct children’s eye tests in our practice. We accommodate children of all ages with many eye conditions.  If required we can also refer children to paediatric ophthalmologists for further assessment.

Can you teach me to wear contact lenses?

Yes we always take the time to teach you insertion and removal techniques for successful contact lens wear. Occasionally this may take more than one visit but we have the patience and would love to help you succeed.

Can I get blue light blocking glasses?

Yes we have specialised lenses that that block the wavelengths from blue light and high energy visible light (HEV light).  These lenses are available for all prescriptions including single vision and multifocals lenses.  We can also provide blue light blocking lenses if you do not have a prescription.

Can I order contact lenses online?

Yes, you can order them by emailing our practice. We can provide an eye examination for both glasses and contact lenses if your prescription has expired.  We recommend an annual review for contact lens wearers to ensure that your eyes remain healthy and that you are wearing the latest, most oxygen permeable products.  We keep stock of daily disposable lenses so you can purchase your supply at your appointment.

Do you have scleral contact lenses?

Yes. Scleral contact lenses provide an option for patients with keratoconus, corneal grafts and other corneal conditions to wear lenses successfully. We work with Australia’s leading scleral lens suppliers to source this product. Generally we like to source corneal topography (mapping) results to ensure the optimal vision, fit and comfort of these products.

Do you have rigid gas permeable contact lenses?

Yes, we can fit and supply rigid gas permeable contact lenses, and have extensive experience fitting these products.

Can I wear multifocal glasses?

If need glasses for both distance and reading, multifocal glasses are a great option. Multifocal lenses usually refer to both bifocals (glasses with the line) and progressives (blended lenses with no line). Most people can adapt to the new technology of progressives. They are much easier to get used to than in the past, and reduce distortion which used to be an issue for earlier generations of this product.

Is there anything I can do to stop my short sightedness getting worse?

Yes, there are many options for myopia control, such as Atropine drops, myopia control contact lenses or progressive spectacle lenses. We would be happy to discuss the options with you and support you with your treatment.

Does the optometrist treat keratoconus?

Yes, our optometrist is experienced with using hard contact lenses to treat keratoconus, working with leading keratoconus subspecialty ophthalmologists.

Does the optometrist use ortho-k lenses (orthokeratology)?

Yes, our optometrist can provide specialised ortho-k lenses for both children and adults. These lenses can potentially be used as a treatment to prevent the progression of myopia (short sightedness). Another use is to enable patients to be glasses and contact lens free during the day.  Please book an appointment to see if you are a candidate for this treatment.
